A good piece.....

It has been some times since I last blogged... just too busy with the word - lazy as well. Kekeke...

Last week, I met another stranger... another STRANGE man...

"Hi, how much is it for prawn fishing?"
"$14.50 an hour sir."
"Why are those people there (referring to the prawn fishing anglers) so stupid?"
"Beg your pardon, sir...?"
"I mean those people out there. So stupid! $14.50 can go NTUC buy alot of prawns! Hiaz... I just wonder why....."
"Sir, indeed you could purchase alot of prawns at NTUC but those prawns are all dead. It is not about the prawns but it is about having fun catching them and spending quality time with friends or family."
"I can buy prawns and cook them then spend good time with my family as well. Right?"
"Yes, you could. I am not stopping you from buying prawns from NTUC and I am not asking you to try prawn fishing as well. You have the liberty to choose what you want to do with your $14.50 and so the same for the rest of my customers as well."
"So stupid....."

Later on, he went on to talk to some of my customers... guess what... he got a good piece from them... hahaha

One day at my pond....

One day at my prawn pond, two ladies walked towards my counter. They seemed to be debating something about the prawn fishing.

Aunty Anyhow, "How much for prawn fishing?"
Lady Knowhow, "$14.50 lor."
Aunty Anyhow, "See... they don't provide rod for fishing."
Lady Knowhow, "Got lah. Look at all the rods behind the counter..."
Aunty Anyhow, "They don't give baits one...."
Lady Knowhow, "They do. Look here. These are the baits and wow, all cut up."
Aunty Anyhow, "Water blur blur... cannot see prawns. Sure got no prawns."
Lady Knowhow, "Walau. You see yourself lah. There, got prawn come up liao."
Aunty Anyhow, "Down here no big prawn one lah."
Lady Knowhow, "Yesterday the one I caught big or not?"
Aunty Anyhow, "Big, that one big."
Lady Knowhow, "I caught here one lah!"
Aunty Anyhow, "Err... $14.50, market can buy more prawn lah."
Lady Knowhow, "......................................"

Sometimes, presumption just simply makes you look really stupid. All you have to do is ASK but please don't ask stupid questions too.

"I come so many times and I never see you all put prawns one, got prawns or not?"
"If we never put prawns, then I could have properly packed my bag and balek kampong liao... if no prawns, why are you coming back after so many times?"

How to eat big head shrimps?

It is a very common question which I would almost encounter daily with brand new anglers for prawn fishing. There are a few points to take note in order to keep these freshwater shrimps fresh and tasty.

Basically, after you have brought home the shrimps, try not to freeze them in the freezer. The shrimps are best kept in the chiller instead since frozen big head shrimps will lose its texture and shrimps that are kept too long in the freezer will lose the 'QQ' texture and become powdery like.

"What else should I look out when storing them? "
Ans: You could apply salt to the shrimps during storage. It is best done when they are still alive as they would intake the salt into their system and the salt will give you a better after taste when cooked or sashimi.

"How long could I store them?"
Ans: I would suggest that the shrimps are consumed within a week from the date of 'captured'. It would be even better to eat them the same day of 'captured'.

"How to prepare big head shrimp sashimi?"
Ans: I got this from a sashimi chef so don't ask me if it is the correct way or not. Anyway, it tastes really good when eaten raw. Firstly, while the prawn is still alive, put them into a pail of ice cold water with lots of ice and salt. The shrimp will knock out pretty soon in that temperature and you could start to remove the shells and its guts. Please remember to keep it as cold as possible as the heat from our hands could affect the taste and also, the longer you take to prepare them, you are losing quality as the same time. The chef recommended to use japanese sashimi wine to further enhance the taste but you could also use sashimi sauce with wine too. When the shrimps are ready, serve them with a plate of ice to keep them cold as the ice will keep the texture 'QQ'. Dip the shrimp into the sashimi sauce (best with wine type), roll it around and then put it into your mouth... HEAVENLY!!!

"Steam them or grill them better?"
Ans: Chinese restaurant would normally steam them with egg white and chinese wine. The wine fragrance will greatly enhance our appetite further. It is definitely a great way to prepare them the chinese way. You could also grill them on the spot. If the heat is right, your shrimp will come out nice and juicy and during grilling them, the aroma from the grilling shrimps are mouth watering as well.

"What sizes prawns are best tasting?"
Ans: Personally, I prefer shrimps of 3-4inches in size. I feel that they are sweeter than their bigger counterparts. I like them grilled, steamed or eating them raw. For the bigger ones with big blue claws, I simply love the claws as the muscles in the claws are sweeter than the body itself. thus, whoever that dump the big claws I would advice them to keep them. If they insist, I would keep the claws for myself instead. As for these big claws, same thing, prepare them in ice cold water. Part them into half, season with salt, butter and garlic. Send them into the oven while they are still ice cold. When the big claws are cooked, serve them with a dash of black pepper or even add some sashimi sauce to further enhance the taste. You will want more!

After writing all these... I am getting hungry myself... hahaha.

The above are just my very own humble opinions. It is not even a guide to how to eat them. It is just some ways that I think that is nice and to share it with you all here. You may also invent your own way of eating them! I have customers who deep fried them with oats. Fantastic as well!

Nice sub... kekeke

Ben, well done!!! Nice biggie.

Bottle Tree Park (Yishun)

I believe the above map would help to solve the 'mystery' about the location of Bottle Tree Park (Yishun).

BTP opens daily from 0730hrs-0000 (7.30am - 12.00am). The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. For weekend diners, please kindly call up for reservation to avoid disappointment.

BTP has a pretty big fresh water pond for fishing and probably the biggest in Singapore. It operates daily from 8am - 5pm only. Whole day fishing costs $35.00 and Bottle Tree Pte Ltd operates this pond.

Other than fishing, it has prawn fishing and "longkang" fishing which is operated by Whitewater Recreations.

Prawn fishing starts only at 9am daily till 12am midnight. The rates are $14.50/hr. Getting two hours entitles 3omins free. If you purchase 3hrs, you are entitled an extra hour free. Personal equipment are allowed.

"Longkang" fishing is for kids. Each $10/hour ticket entitles the kido a net and a fish tank for keep (You get to bring home the net and the tank).
Mollies, guppies, sultan, gold fish and other assorted tropical fish are found in the "longkang".

Rules and regulations are available at the services.

Bottle Tree Park (Yishun) is a private property under private management. Public are required to leave the place at midnight and anyone found loitering in the park after midnight is considered as trespassing.

If you wish to hold a picnic or a bbq or a gathering at the park, the public are to consult Bottle Tree Pte Ltd for permission first, otherwise, BTP has the rights to ask you to leave if required.

Since Bottle Tree Park (Yishun) has a restaurant, STRAIGHTLY NO OUTSIDE FOOD AND DRINKS ARE ALLOWED IN THE PARK. Thus please forget about bringing your own food into the park.

The public are advised to observe the rules and regulations in using the park at all times. Since this is a private property, the management reserves the rights to ask anyone to leave who is deemed trouble maker in the park. Dont play play lor... enjoy the facilities and have fun. We are all peaceful people.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh, please keep your trash in the respectively places. What is respective places? Rubbish bins lor. For the past two weeks, singaporeans have been showing off what are they most capable of, LITTERING!!! It is really shameful as this park is really beautiful but damn it, people just couldnt appreciate it. Loads of litters everyday!!! We are making a fool of ourselves and our country by showing the foreign visitors how 'clean' are we. No wonder Singapore is a 'fine' country. We already face people who bring in their own food and drinks to consume in the park. The management has always been friendly and always advised the public about the rules and regulations of the park. After these picnickers have left, loads of trash are left behind... "Why you all like that???"
I cant imagine if Singapore goes without cleaners for one week... are singaporeans really living in first class environment with a third world mindset? Our actions speak for ourselves...
If I have the time, I would take some photos to show how ugly we are. Are we really blind to the trash and simply cant be bothered about keeping the any place clean? Dont blame anyone or any organization for smelly restrooms or dirty parks, got it?
"If I dont litter, the cleaners will go hungry..."
The above theory is absolutely FALSE!!!
Please help keep Singapore clean... please... please... please...
